What is Anaerobic Digestion?
Anaerobic Digestion is a natural process where bacteria, without any oxygen, break down organic materials to produce useful biogas (for energy) and nutrient-rich digestate (for fertilizer). Biogas is a renewable energy source, made of methane (CHâ‚„) and carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚). The methane can be concentrated into biomethane a renewable substitute de Natural Gas. The carbon dioxide can be recovered and stored via CCUS.

Using food waste in Anaerobic Digestion is often better because:

It tackles an existing, problematic waste stream, keeping it out of landfills.

It does not compete with Food Production. It doesn't use up land that could be growing food for people.

Whilst prevention of waste is always better, it's a great way to recycle nutrients and create renewable energy.
What is Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage?
CCUS or Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage aims to reduce the amount of COâ‚‚ entering the atmosphere, especially from industries that are difficult to make completely emission-free quickly.
BEES aims to develop logistic projects harvesting the COâ‚‚ of various AD plants for transportation and underground storage into depleted offshore gas fields, several kilometres under the seabed, for permanent storage.
